How Do I Know When It’s Time?
Deciding when to say goodbye is one of the hardest choices a pet parent will ever make. It’s natural to wrestle with uncertainty, hope, and fear all at once. You know your companion better than anyone, but you don’t have to make this decision alone. We’re here to guide you through it with compassion and clarity.Together, we’ll look at your pet’s comfort, mobility, appetite, and daily joy. When pain outweighs pleasure—when good days become fewer and harder to find—it may be time to help your pet find peace. There’s no perfect moment, but there is a loving one: the time when you choose to ease suffering and honor the bond you’ve shared. When love means letting go, the kindest gift is a gentle goodbye.Assessing Your Pet’s Quality of Life
Understanding your pet’s quality of life can help bring peace, clarity, and confidence to an incredibly difficult decision. We encourage families to look at the physical comfort and emotional well-being of both you and your pet. Our downloadable and printable assessment form is available to help you.Key Areas to Consider
- Pain & Discomfort – Is your pet experiencing consistent pain, restlessness, or trouble breathing?
- Mobility – Can they move around, stand, or reach food and water without struggle?
- Appetite & Hydration – Are they eating and drinking normally, or showing signs of nausea or disinterest?
- Hygiene & Elimination – Are they able to urinate and defecate comfortably, or are accidents causing distress?
- Happiness & Connection – Do they still find joy in interaction, toys, or affection? Do they recognize family members?
- Good Days vs. Bad Days – Keep a simple daily log. When bad days begin to outnumber good ones, that pattern can speak volumes.
